r
5. Review Quashnet School Improvement Plan
Between our March and April School Council meetings Mrs. DeBoer reviewed the
actions listed under each goal on the Quashnet School 2010-2011 School Improvement
Plan. Which actions are most effective in helping us reach our goal? All the actions
listed under Goal #1 and Goal #2 (Academic Achievement—ELA and Mathematics) are
important—intertwined and necessary to help our students achieve. Teachers on the
School Council are in agreement. Each action makes a contribution to improving
student achievement.
Each action listed under Goal #3 (School Culture) is also considered valuable and
contributing to our creating and maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment.
The suggestion was made to provide parent workshops focused on positive behavior
interventions and supports, anti-bullying, and mindfulness. The District's newly
developed anti-bullying plan also includes a survey piece that, once administered to
parents, students, and staff, will provide data to inform actions/decisions that will lead to
a reduction in bullying behavior in our community.
The actions listed under Goal #4 (Student Wellness) are also all important. We need to
check with PE Teacher, Curt Morris, to confirm that each student has developed a
physical education goal for this school year (1s` action listed).
6. Review draft proposal—District Strategic Plan
We reviewed the draft Mashpee Strategic Plan
Core Values—All present thought the newly-added Core Values were good.
The four Goals and Actions to reach each goal—Also, OK.
7. Other
Technology update: We are moving forward with our plan to resource each homeroom
with interactive technology for instruction and learning. By the end of this school year
Grade 3 homerooms will each have SMART board technology, and Grade 4
homerooms will each have ENO board technology. We are hopeful to continue with this
effort in the next school year, equipping our fifth and sixth grade homerooms. The PTO
has agreed to support resourcing one homeroom. Other monies raised through various
fundraising efforts will help with this initiative as well.
Our next Quashnet School Council meeting is scheduled for Thursday. May 5, 2011, at 3:15 PM.
