5. Answer this question only if you answered 'yes"to Question 4 If you support
having students dress uniformly, are you also in favor of including periodic
"special days"where alternatives to the student uniform dress are permitted?
(Ex: Pajama Day, Mashpee Spirit Day, Sports Team Days, etc)
■ We discussed concerns for families with financial constraints. Sources for financial aid will be
researched. Families will be supported
■ Many local vendors and on-line vendors sell the proposed uniform dress items at reasonable prices.
■ Uniform dress far students proposal:
o Fitted chino style pants, skirts, shorts, or capris in khaki, blue, or black color
o Solid color polo style shirt—long or,short sleeved—without emblems, logos, or designs
3. FY13 Budget—K-8 Literacy Coach—(5 minutes)
■ Mrs. DeBoer briefly discussed her proposal to seek funding for a K-8 Literacy Coach for
SY12-13 to help us address our ongoing student achievement challenges in ELA. The
person in this position would follow a similar model to that of our K-8 Math Coach. The
literacy coach would be an experienced teacher, an expert on all aspects of literacy content
and instruction, and possess the communication skills to develop a positive working
relationship with teachers and students. The person selected for this position would provide
support at the K.C. Coombs School, the Quashnet School, and the Mashpee Middle School.
■ This suggestion will be forwarded to Superintendent Bradshaw for consideration in the
FY13 school department budget.
4. Other(5 minutes)
Student Book Club—Based on Massachusetts Children's Book Award Nominees (Mrs. Cortez)
PBIS Workshop for parents—as was held several years ago (Mrs. Cortez)
• Mrs. Cortez asked about the Quashnet School hosting a student book club focused on reading 2012
Massachusetts Children's Book Award nominees. After inquiring with our staff, Mrs. Lanoue and Mrs.
Sweeney will be hosting a before-school weekly book club for third and fourth graders; and Ms. Goulart
and Ms. Fredericks will be hosting a before-.school weekly book club for fifth and sixth graders.
Information will be sent home with students during the week of 11/14/11. Both clubs are scheduled to start
on January 4, 2012. Enrollment will be limited.
• Mrs. Cortez also inquired about a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) workshop for
parents. She remembered a similar event that we had several years ago--during the early implementation
stages of the program. There were activities for children while parents learned strategies to positively
interact with their children and to promote desired behaviors. The earlier workshop was grant funded.
We will look into options.
SUBMITTED BY: Patricia DeBoer
November 11, 2011
*11111t
