3. FY13 Budget(10 minutes)
■ All Council members are in agreement to request a K-8 Literacy Coach position for SY12-13 (FY13
budget). We realize that creativity may be needed in order to find funding for this position. It is our
belief that the right person in this position can help us to improve instruction and learning in the area of
literacy.
■ It was also the suggestion of one Council member that consideration should be given to bringing back a
school resource officer for the district.
■ Both recommendations will be included in future budget discussions with Superintendent Bradshaw.
4. SIP Wellness Goal—Brainstorm ideas on how to improve school lunch offerings(10 minutes)
After discussing concerns related to student lunches, a suggestion was made to invite Food Services Director
Maureen Paxton to our next School Council meeting to explain the food services program and to brainstorm
ways we can make the lunch offerings more desirable while also maintaining a focus on healthy choices.
(Maureen was contacted and will attend our January 5t`meeting.)
5. Other
Council member Liz Vieira talked about her being a member of the Indian Education Parent
Committee. The group will be working to improve the academic performance of native students.
The current grant is to provide support for students in Grades 6-12. We emphasized the primary focus
should be providing support for students in the lower grades (K-6). In an email received after this meeting,
Mrs. DeBoer was informed that Shani Turner would be at Quashnet on Wednesday's to run an after-school
help group for native students (start date not identified).
