-off
MASHPEE SEWER COMMISSION
Tuesday,November 21,'2006
Mashpee Town Hall
Members Present: Matt Berrelli, Tom Fudala, Don Desmaris
Also Present:Ann Bradshaw, Ira Brown, Mary Rose Grady, Becky Romkey, Peter Thomas
MINUTES
Don made a motion to approved the minutes of August 15, 2006. Tom seconded the
motion.All members were in favor.
Will vote on minutes of October 10, 2006 at the next meeting.
Mashpee High School Treatment Plant
Tom explained he has a coy of a memo from the CPA Committee to the Board of Selectmen,
copied to the Sewer Commission, asking the Board of Selectmen about the potential for the
Mashpee Housing Authority units on Old Barnstable Rd to tie into the high school plant.
The Mashpee Housing Authority has not spoken to the school committee about this.
Tom thinks it is a long way to go (piping)for a small number of bedrooms.
Based on previous discussions, the Sewer Commission has some issues regarding management
of the plant:
- school storage facility is mixed in with the plant facility
- Sewer Commission has suggested using area under the ball fields for discharge.. School Dept.
is concerned about any loss of use of the fields.
The Commission has been introduced to new technology Geo Flow-which is small pipes with
emitters, installed only 6"under the ground, just use ditch witch, therefore does not require
digging up the fields.
In the future, at peak time, the town will need to discharge 3-4 million gallons per day.
Currently, the Sewer Commission needs some direction, for their facilities plan, as to whether the
ballfields are a possibility.
Ann Bradshaw asked if the idea of discharge under the parking area has been considered?
Matt said that is much more expensive, as compared to,ballfields. It requires re-paving as well as
heavier pipe in order to handle the weight of the pavement. Plus, there is much more area under
the ballfields than parking area
Peter Thomas asked if it is better to have one large discharge area or many scattered around
town?
Tom said it is more cost efficient to have multiple sites around town because of the cost of piping
is tremendous-to get wastewater from plants to discharge area.
