MASHPEE SEWER COMMISSION
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2008
MASHPEE TOWN HALL
Members Present: Don Desmaris, Tom Fudala
Also Present: Jeff Gregg and Bill Hall from Stearns and Wheler, Nancy Farrell, Regina
Villa, Anne Bradshaw, Mashpee Superintendent of Schools
p P
Ed Eichner, of SMaST has reported that the databases are close to being ready. He will
be setting up a meeting with S & W and Lombardo & Assoc. He did not mention when
they would begin running the model.
The Selectmen gave permission for site evaluation work at the transfer station site, as
well as Ashumet Rd and Keeter property. This has run into a series of problems.
- the estimate that Green Seal Environment gave to do this work was way over budget
($40,000) so Jeff Gregg is trying to re-scope it.
Then, the town received a letter from MA Historical. Because these are Federal funds,
will have to file with the State archeologist and an intense archeological survey would
need to be conducted.
Jeff Gregg called the State to discuss the work. Almost any site will be up against this
requirement as based on the MEPA comments received, unless the site is largely
disturbed already.
Tom suggested contacting the State on site 3 as well to see if this will be an issue. What
would that cost for S & W to do that work?
Jeff said there is a minimal submittal fee. It is not a lot of paperwork but some effort on S
& W's part; he will follow up with a cost.
Tom said the archeological firm PAL has been hired by the town to do a town wide
reconisense and determine areas of archeological interest.
He showed them the proposed work by Green Seal and PAL gave an estimate of $8000
to do the work.
Tom will give S & W names of the other firms not selected to get estimates from.
Tom asked should we proceed with transfer station site work or submit to the State on
the other 3 sites and see what happens?
Jeff said it is taking longer for the models to be run than expected, he suggests sending
the letter to the State on the other sites. Maybe will then have model result to help
prioritize locations/sites.
Board members gave S & W authorization to send letter to Mass Historical regarding the
Ashumet Rd, Keeter and New Seabury golf course sites.
Natural Heritage, as of Oct. 1,', the State released a new map of endangered species
locations. A big chunk of the transfer station site is within the site, previous to this map it
was not.
Tom asked the status of Natural Heritage letter?
Jeff has not received a response yet.
