Shellfish Commission 16 Great Neck Road North <br /> Mashpee, MA 02649 <br /> aOLE co MINUTES OF MEETING November 7, 2012 <br /> Attendance: William Holmes, Stephen Marques, Peter Thomas & Richard York <br /> Marcus Hendricks <br /> Public Comment: None <br /> Convene Meeting: 7:00 PM <br /> Approval of Minutes: 9-11-12 and 10-9-12 Marques - motion to approve. <br /> Holmes 2na. Vote— unanimous in favor of approval. <br /> Shellfish Constable's Report: After the precautionary state-wide shellfishing <br /> closure for Hurricane Sandy, the DMF opened the usual areas opened to <br /> shellfishing November 1 including the oyster beds in the Mashpee River and <br /> Mashpee Neck. Up to 24 people a day were oystering. People are still getting <br /> some scallops in Waquoit Bay. The Popponesset spit washed over in 3 places in <br /> the recent storm. At a meeting last month in Hyannis the EPA and DEP changed <br /> their positions to allow shellfish to be a part of town Comprehensive Wastewater <br /> Management Plans. <br /> Old Business: Shellfish Propagation: The oyster, quahog and scallop seed grew <br /> well this year <br /> Shellfish Aquaculture Regulations: Nothing new. <br /> Sponge Fouling: Nothing new. <br /> Waguoit Bay Town Line: Nothing new. <br /> New Business: <br /> Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plan (CWMP) — Shellfish Component: <br /> The CWMP is part of the Watershed Nitrogen Management Plan (WNMP) that <br /> the Planning Department and Sewer Commission are working on. The Shellfish <br /> Constable is proposing a shellfish propagation component of the plan. It includes <br /> increasing oyster seeding and harvest in the Mashpee River and increased <br /> seeding of quahogs in other areas. The EPA and DEP stated that they will allow <br /> shellfish in CWMPs at the meeting in Hyannis"Sustainable Cape Cod: New <br /> Tools and Practices for Clean Water and Community Benefit' put on the EPA, <br /> Cape Cod Commission and Water Alliance held October 22-23. <br /> 09:30 PM -Adjournment <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> 1, AV,,�4 / , <br /> Richard York, Shellfish Commission Secretary <br />
