Transfers of $230,000 from three accounts are re-
quested to purchase data processing hardware and
software for Town Hall and to make modifications
to accommodate the equipment. The Computer Selec-
tion Committee (Town Treasurer, Town Accountant,
Director of Assessing, and Executive Secretary)
have recommended the equipment be purchased from
the Municipal and School Business Officials
Cooperative Corp (The CO/OP) . The system will in-
clude a Digital Equipment Corporation central
processing unit, associated peripherals from vari-
ous vendors and the CO/OP' s municipal applications
software systems. This recommendation evolved from
a process that included the preparation of speci-
fications, issuance of a request for proposal,
evaluation of the proposals to select five semi-
finalists. The selection of the CO/OP will pro-
vide the Town with a data processing system that
can serve all Town Hall departments for a number
of years. It has the additional benefit of being
a primary school department system throughout
Massachusetts so that we have the capacity to
integrate our new school administration into the
Town Hall system. The funds requested at this
time would provide capability to bring into the
system the entire operations of the Accounting,
Assessing, Treasurer/Collector, Personnel, and
Selectmen's Office. The Health, Inspections, and
Planning departments would be included in a second
phase.
Article 4 :
To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Board of Selectmen to
enter into an intermunicipal agreement with the Towns of Falmouth
and/or Sandwich for the purpose of constructing, equipping, and
operating a solid waste railroad transfer station to facilitate the
transfer of the Town ' s solid waste to the SEMASS Resource Recovery
Plant in Rochester upon such terms as the Board of Selectmen deems
advisable in accordance with Chapter 40, Section 4A, and Chapter 40D,
Section 21 (g) ,
— 8:27 .P.M.
Motion to accept as printed. . . .motion carries.: . .•. : : . . . . . . . .
Approval of this article, along with articles
five and six, would allow the Town to partici-
pate in a regional effort to transfer solid waste
by rail from the Mass. Military Reservation (Otis)
-9-
