Motion passes at 8:39 p.m. <br /> Article 16 <br /> To see if the Town will vote to hire and equip a police sergeant and that the Town raise and appropriate or <br /> from available funds 20 4 <br /> transfer f , $ 55,with said funds to be apportioned as follows: Police Patrolman Salaries <br /> Account$11,757; Police Expense Account$2,500; Group Insurance Account$35; Employee Medical <br /> Insurance Account$5,481; and the Medicare Account$682, or take any other action relating thereto. <br /> Submitted by the Police Department <br /> Explanation: In general, this sergeant position will be assigned to the Mashpee Police Department <br /> Administrative and Service Division to provide staff and administrative assistance to the division. Moreover, <br /> the sergeant position will be the Special Services Supervisor for the Special Services Section of the <br /> Administrative and Service Division. This sergeant position will administer the TRIAD and other volunteer <br /> programs for the police department. Additionally,this sergeant position will supervise community-policing <br /> programs, such as the Police Neighborhood Liaison Program, the Park and Walk Program and other police <br /> community programs as assigned by the Chief of Police. Also, this sergeant position will coordinate <br /> department resources in providing community programs, workshops, and lectures in crime prevention topics to I <br /> community groups,particularly senior citizens. In addition to the 25% funding requested for this sergeant <br /> position, a federal grant, "Cops Universal Hiring", awarded to the Town of Mashpee will provide 75% of the <br /> salary over a three year period. <br /> Recommendation: Finance Committee recommends approval. <br /> Motion made by Ken Marsters. <br /> I <br /> Motion: I move the Town vote to hire and equip a police sergeant and the Town raise and appropriate $20,455, j <br /> with said funds to be apportioned as follows: Police Patrolman Salaries Account $11,757; Police Expense <br /> Account$2,500; Group Insurance Account$35; Employee Medical Insurance Account$5,481; and the <br /> Medicare Account $682. <br /> i <br /> Motion defeated at 8:43 p.m. <br /> I <br /> Article 17 <br /> To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate or transfer from available funds the sum of two thousand <br /> dollars ($2000) to the Domestic Violence Account; said sum to be expended by the Mashpee Police <br /> Department, or take any action relating thereto. <br /> Submitted by the Police Department <br /> Explanation: The Towns of Sandwich, Falmouth and Bourne have like articles being submitted at their town <br /> meetings. The Upper Cape Domestic Violence Coalition is a group of people that include police officers from <br /> the four towns, representatives from Falmouth Hospital, Bourne, Falmouth and Mashpee housing authorities, <br /> Cape Cod Center for Women, The Enterprise Newspaper, Falmouth District Court, Gosnold/Thorne Counseling <br /> Centers,Mashpee Wampanoag Indian Tribal Council and several other organizations. The Goal of the <br /> Coalition is to combat domestic violence on the Upper Cape and assist its victims. <br />
