TOWN OF MASHPEE <br /> Board of Appeals <br /> Town Hall, Mashpee, Massachusetts 02649 <br /> June 23, 1976 <br /> Re: Appeal of Dynamic Action Residents Enterprise, Inc. <br /> DECISION <br /> A petition was duly filed by the petitioner for a special <br /> permit under the provisions of the zoning by-law for the Town <br /> of Mashpee, Section 6.3 B8 to operate a group home/settlement house <br /> for young people aged 14 to 18. <br /> Notice was duly given to abutters and owners of land <br /> next adjoining the land of the abutters. Notice was given by pub- <br /> lication by publishing in the Falmouth Enterprise, a newspaper <br /> of general circulation in the Town of Mashpee on May 25, 1976 and <br /> June 1, 1976, a copy of such notice being appended hereto. <br /> A public hearing was held on the petition at the Mashpee <br /> Town Hall on Wednesday, June 9, 1976 at 8 :00 p.m. at which time <br /> the following members of the Board of Appeals were present: Clara <br /> L. Keliinui, Michael Makunas and Linda Hendricks. <br /> The petitioner's property consists of 14.2 acres of <br /> land and buildings located on Route 130 in Mashpee and being the <br /> same property described in deed recorded in Barnstable Registry <br /> Of Deeds in Book 1652, Page 69. The petitioner wishes to operate <br /> a group home for male and female adolescent children to provide <br /> a structured environment, care and discipline and to engender in <br /> the adolescents responsibility for themselves and to society. <br /> Hearing was attended by approximately 35 persons, many <br /> of whom were former and present residents of. DARE, and staff personnel. <br /> Letters were received from various agencies favoring the petition. <br /> One letter was received from the father of a former DARE resident <br /> registering opposition to the petition. A vote of registered voters <br /> of Mashpee reflected 15 in favor and 7 opposed. <br /> After careful consideration of all information made <br /> available to this board and inspection of the DARE premises, the <br /> Board of Appeals has unanimously voted to deny a Special Permit <br />
