LEISURE SERVICES ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING ' February 7, 1995 Mashpee Middle School Conference Room Present: Absent: Also Present: Elisa Meunier Linda Young Gus Frederick Maryanne Gibbs Bob Tippo George Costa N. Feldman Ron Roberts I. Qpening of Meeting= Elisa opened the meeting at 4:45 PM. II. Secretary's Report - Maureen made a motion to approve December 6 meeting with one correction. Secretary's report should read November 18, 1994 (not October 18, 1994). Maryanne seconded the motion. Motion carried. M. Communications - 1. Barnstable County Health and Human Serv. Ad. Council presents - a. Task Force on Children 2/21/95, 2:30 PM at Barnstable Superior Court House. 2. Cape Cod Regional Tobacco Control Program will offer a stop Smoking clinic ($5.00 donation) for Town employees and will communicate further with Gus concerning a convenient time for those interested. 3. JTEC family provider training program will be offered to young adult/teen parents with a March deadline and classes to start in the fall. 4. Dr. DeMoura sent out a letter regarding Circle of Caring Mmes for their summer camp and MMS usage. 5. Gus reviewed a letter sent to a soccer parent concerning an incident that took place at the final indoor soccer game. 6. Discussion took place on recent additions to Department library. Rec., Park, and Open space standards and guidelines book added to the department. IV. Reports - A. Old Business - 1. Budget - Lifeguards will be level funded at this time. Gus feels he can work with this. Swim lessons will be offered free of charge this summer. Replacing old equipment and buying new was decreased. However, part of this was a water tank which the DPW has in their equipment budget for Heritage Park. 2. Capital Improvement Program -All areas have been pushed to 1997. However, the summer camp building is being discussed. 3. Hirsh School - nothing to report at this time. 4. Gus and Dr. DeMoura discussed a Grant for lunch, concerning our summer camp programing. Gus would like to offer canoe, bike. field trips, and overnight camping. Maryanne suggested using Mashpee youths as CIT. 5. Youth commission - Additional youths will be joining. Gus anticipates a Youth Council forming from this. B. New Business - 1. Friday Night Snorts Program started February 3. There is a one-time fee of$5.00 and then .50 each Friday in attendance. Structured sports activities are offered to students grades 4 - 8.
