Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes 2 <br /> January 4, 1999 <br /> APPOIN'T'MENTS,SND HEARING& <br /> Public Comment: <br /> Cheryl Smith-Shepley indicated that she submitted a letter to the editor <br /> relative to the appointment of the newly formed Open Space Committee. <br /> People are distrustful in the manner to which the committee was formed, and <br /> there is an apparent conflict of interest relative to the appointment of a <br /> committee member informed Ms. Smith-Shepley. <br /> The committee make-up should consist entirely of environmentalists, and at <br /> least two Native Americans selected by the Tribal Council indicated Ms. <br /> Smith-Shepley who stated that Selectman Frye should oversee the committee's <br /> actions. Ms. Smith-Shepley suggested the Selectmen dissolve the present <br /> committee at this time. <br /> 6:35 p.m. Selectman Caffyn present. <br /> Evelyn Buschenfeldt stated that matter of appointment to the Open Space <br /> Committee was to be an agenda item of the Selectmen on this date. She <br /> stated that it is hopeful that committee members would be an environmentalist at <br /> heart, and allowed to incorporate other talents into the make-up of the <br /> committee. <br /> Beverly Kane recommended the Board vote tonight to appoint members to the <br /> above reference committee. It has been over one month since we have submitted <br /> letters of interest to serve the Open Space Committee informed Ms. Kane. <br /> It was noted that George Costa recently resigned from the committee. One <br /> citizen representative remains on said committee. <br /> Selectman Leveille, Chairman of the Open Space Committee authorized <br /> Mrs. Mason,Assistant to the Executive Secretary to notify perspective candidates <br /> who have submitted letters of interest to service the committee to attend an <br /> upcoming tour of potential sites on January 9, 1999. The tour will begin at the <br /> Town Hall facility at 10:00 a.m. <br /> The next scheduled meeting of the Open Space Committee is Tuesday, <br /> January 5, 1999 at 4:30 p.m. in Town Hall. <br />
