9
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
February 7, 2000
APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS:
School Committee/Finance Committee Budget Discussion:
(continued)
To bring forth more accurate budget projections, Superintendent Fluery
indicated that he has scheduled a complete audit of all school practices.
An inventory is also being conducted of school supplies in an effort to
track actual expenditures.
The option of utilizing the Department of Public Works for grounds
maintenance was also considered.
The next scheduled Joint Budget Meeting is Wednesday, March 1, 2000 at
7:00 p.m. in Conference Room#I of the Town Hall.
Discussion relative to DPW Generator Bids:
Correspondence was received from Greg Taylor, Director of Public Works
dated February 3, 2000 recommending the Board award the low bid for
the emergency generator to FM Generator of Canton for the sum of
$33,200.
Mr. Taylor suggested the Board consider using Chapter 90 grant funds for
said purpose and utilize Capital Improvement funds in July for the Route
151 sidewalk project.
It was noted that the Finance Committee denied the DPW's request to
purchase an emergency generator through the Town's Emergency Reserve
Fund. The vote of the Finance Committee was 4-2 against the proposal.
Approximately $90,000 exists in the fund at this time.
The Selectmen consulted the Finance Committee with respect to this
regard. Members of the Finance Committee did not deem the matter
emergency in nature.
At the end of the fiscal year; if available funds exist in the Emergency
Reserve Receipts Account, the Finance Committee agreed to consider the
use of available funds for the purchase of an emergency generator for the
Department of Public Works. It was noted that the request also appears in
the budget of the Capital Improvement Plan for FY2001.
