2 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> January 22, 2001 <br /> OLD BUSINESS; <br /> Execution of Order of Taking: <br /> Francis James Opie and Mary Ball Gartrell Opie: <br /> Land Bank Article—Approved at May/1999 Town Meeting. <br /> Phase III of purchase. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Taylor to approve and execute <br /> the Order of Taking of the Francis James Opie and Mary Ball <br /> Gartrell Opie land on this date for the sum of$42,000. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Marsters. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> Public Hearing—Tree Removal Route 151: <br /> Selectman Leveille opened the Public Hearing for the purpose of receiving <br /> comments relative to the removal of shade trees from a public way in <br /> conjunction with the construction of a bikeway/walkway on Route 151 in <br /> Mashpee. <br /> The Town Administrator read aloud the Public Hearing notice as <br /> published. The Tree Warden, Richard Oakley was present with Norman <br /> Hayes of the BSC Group to review the intended list of trees to be removed <br /> for the bikeway/walkway. <br /> A list of trees according to species, size and condition within the 10' right- <br /> of-way was presented to the Selectmen for review. A total of 115 are <br /> considered for removal along the bikeway/walkway route. Ninety-eight <br /> trees are pitch pines and 35-40 has been targeted as in poor condition due <br /> to disease and improper pruning practices. <br /> To date,the design and related plan is 99% complete. The project remains <br /> within the allotted budget. Construction is anticipated to commence in the <br /> spring of 2001. <br /> Being no additional comment, the Board motioned to close the Public <br /> Hearing. It is the consensus of the Selectmen to support the proposal as <br /> outlined. <br />
