6
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
July 9, 2001
APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS:
Network Administrator—GIS Discussion:
In an effort to better serve all Town Departments, the position and
implementation of the Geographical Information System(GIS)
Coordinator was the recommended position to support the MIS Director,
Steve Buss to assist with the growth and demand of network/PC
administration and telecommunications.
The Data Processing department is the correct place to staff the GIS
position due to the mandate and history of providing multi-departmental
support explained Mr. Buss. GIS management in data processing would
be administered as a shared resource and a source of support to all
departments with GIS and users.
It was noted that twenty Town Hall departments conduct business and are
dependent upon the services provided by Data Processing. In addition, the
department collaborates with the Police and Fire Departments and the
Mashpee High School.
The Selectmen agreed to hold an article for the October 2001 Town
Meeting warrant to create the position. Mr. Buss was invited to further
discuss this issue with David Bailey, Assessor. The item will appear as a
future agenda topic of the Board of Selectmen.
Cave Light Compact:
Representatives of the Cape Light Compact were present to discuss the
Compact Energy Efficiency Program. Benefits include lower costs, a
reduction in the need for new electric plants, a reduction in air and water
pollution and the stimulation of local jobs and the economy.
Free energy audits and rebates for product replacements are also proposed
in addition to no-interest loans and support for commercial/industrial
building or system improvements. The Board of Selectmen was requested
to adopt the resolution and participate in the programs. A representative
of the Town of Mashpee was requested for appointment.
