2 <br /> <br />Board of Selectmen <br />Minutes <br />May 26, 2015 <br /> <br />Present: Selectman Cahalane, Selectman Sherman, Selectman Gottlieb, <br /> Selectman O’Hara, Selectman Cotton <br /> <br /> Meeting Called to Order by Chairman Cahalane at 4:00 p.m. <br /> Waquoit Meeting Room, Mashpee Town Hall <br /> <br /> NEW BUSINESS: <br /> Town Manager Candidates Interviews: <br /> <br /> The Board of Selectmen continued to interview the final candidates recommended <br /> by the Town Manager Screening Committee for the position of Town Manager. <br /> The format for each candidate was given equal consideration. <br /> <br /> Michael Embury: <br /> <br />Michael Embury has served as the Town Manager for the Town of North Kingstown, RI <br />since 2007. Prior to this position has was Director of Operations for Secure Global <br />Engineering and Northeast Engineers and Consultants of Rhode Island. Prior to this Mr. <br />Embury was Town Administrator for the Town of Middletown, RI. <br />Mr. Embury holds a Master’s degree in Community Planning from the University of <br />Rhode Island, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Rhode Island College. <br /> <br />Mr. Embury indicated that he has been a successful municipal manager administering <br />departments with a full range of services. In the Town of Kingstown, Phase I of the <br />sewer master plan was recently completed, and soon sewers will be installed in hopes to <br />stimulate an updated revitalization of the town’s business sector. Mr. Embury indicated <br />that his knowledge will assist Mashpee in their future sewering plans. <br /> <br />As the new Mashpee town manager, Mr. Embury indicated that his skills would help him <br />to develop a close relationship with the community. He maintains a strong working <br />relationship with the Chamber of Commerce in Rhode Island and has been very active in <br />the Kingstown community. <br /> <br />Mr. Embury stated that he works well with the school, and has a keen knowledge of the <br />budgets. During his tenure he has been responsible for successfully negotiating contracts <br />with the town’s collective bargaining units. Several accomplishments include the <br />development of several zoning and incentive programs to promote economic <br />development. As Chief Executive Officer of town government in North Kingstown, Mr. <br />Embury indicated he is responsible to five at-large council members for the daily <br />operation of all town activities. The responsibilities include the administration of 13 <br />departments, personnel management, development, and the oversight of a $90+ million <br />budget.
