- .r..
CONSERVATION BOARD ME-;TING
June 11 , 1980
Present: I
Pauline )." DeLory, Chairperson
Dorothy G. Studley, Vice Chairperson
Charles Buckingham
Barbara Sloane
Wayne Tavares
The meeting was called to order shortly after 7:30 p.m.
SE#43-122
Lawrence Nulty, AIA
Mr. Nulty: Concerned about wave and wind action getting at the foundation of his 5 foot
high terrace and subsequently undermining it. Part of this may have occurred when the
neighbor to the north built a sea wall five or six years ago. His wall is sort of fall-
ing over and our erosion is still continuing. That is the purpose of the desirability
of the sea wall. My property continues maybe another 100 feet around and at this point
on the remaining part of my property which there are reeds and a mud bank, there has
been literally no erosion. I am not worried about it.
Barbara= We had thought originally, Larry and I, of planting it; but the planting would
not hold it.
Mr. Nulty: The planting just didn't work. It somehow just kept washing away.
Charles: The only thing that comes to my mind is that I am wondering if that sea wall
is going to deflect and pass on the action that is coming in here (shows on the plan).
Mr. Nulty: Why that may not happen is that one end of the sea wall is sitting on dark
mud and then the growth starts. The heavy growth continues all along there. The mud
bank and the grassy things and then the bulrushes start.
Barbara: It gets higher, too.
Mrs. Nulty: May I ask about what you said if we diverted what might happen?
Charles: I am wondering if this action that is now coming in here (shows on plan)`will
divert that force and start tearing down through this area.
Barbara: It is heavily vegetated, Charlie.
Charles : What I am wondering is while you are going about it. fthis should be extended in
order to avoid more problems. If this wall were extended more, I am wondering whether it
would reflect that action back into water rather than into more land mass.
Mr. Nulty : I suppose I am going about it one step at a time. I think what you are say-
ing may be true. I£ it was true in a year or two, I guess I would have to build another
40 feet if I had to. I wouldn't like ,to. It is such a pretty little mud bank there now
and I would like not to disturb it unless I had to.
Pauline: The only reason here, Charlie, is because of this wall here.
Mr. Nulty: I suspect that.
