Mashpee Planning and Construction Committee
Minutes of Meeting Held Tuesday,July 18,2017
Mashpee Town Hall–Popponesset Meeting Room
Committee Members Present: Tom O'Neill, Joe Brait, Geoffrey Gorman, and Steve Cook
(arrived 5:50 p.m.).
Also Present: Catherine Laurent,DPW
The meeting was called to order at 5:43 p.m.
Approval of minutes was deferred pending Steve Cook's arrival.
Old Business
Update on MSBA Accelerated Repair Program (window/roof project at QS)
Catherine Laurent provided an update on the Quashnet School window/roof project as presented
in the document she gave to the Committee which outlines the current status; next steps; and
funding of the project.
• Catherine said the funding agreement has been signed by the Town and sent to MSBA.
• Just finishing up the engineering plans, which are to be completed by the end of the
month.
• Subcommittee meeting scheduled for August 9 to review Plans before sending to MSBA.
• Everything is still on the original schedule to finish the plans and to submit for public
bids. Catherine said this is a Town project so Town to submit the request for bid.
Timeframe for bidding: November.
• Will have a general contractor and also filed sub-bids. Because of the size of the project
contractors have to be DCAM certified.
• Once process concluded, contract will be awarded by the Town—tentatively the project
to start in April.
• Funding: Town eligible for 37.95%reimbursement from MSBA. Estimated total
construction budget of$9-Million, but that does not include soft costs or contingencies.
• Schematic Design costs now eligible for reimbursement.
Catherine said the school Principal asked about adding a vestibule for separate gym access
during elections. Estimated cost: $96,000. Town Manager did not approve since cost too high
so Town is not going forward on this request.
