Windows -As noted from archival photos, the windows are six over one plate glass, so the
applicant has proposed new windows, with trim, that will match. The applicant has selected a
six over one 400 series Anderson window with attached grill inside and out. Windows will be
trimmed in a 2" Azac trim with a sill to mimic the appearance of an older window. Due to code
requirements, the front door must be glass so the applicant has proposed a paned glass front door.
Mr. Fudala expressed concern regarding the dramatic change to the windows. Mr. Robbins
agreed that the original structure had more windows and the Commission would appreciate the
return of more windows. The Commission would like to see the windows split to create single
windows, and to add additional windows. Mr. Hulbig agreed and will sign off on the changes
and addition of more windows.
Gutters -Aluminum gutters will be added to the buildings and will feature a round downspout.
Wood gutters are not practical for long term maintenance.
Chimneys -Decorative chimneys will be added to each building in a brick veneer with mortar
grouting.
Porch Railings- The applicant provided photos of the porch railing to be used. Buildings 2 and
3 will have handicap ramps and the required handicap rail will sit within the porch railing.
White painted mahogany will be used for the rail and the top rail will be beveled to offer greater
wood longevity. Traditionally the rail would have been flat.
Flag Pole -The applicant would also like to propose a 35 foot aluminum flag pole to be sited in
the courtyard area.
Signage -Signage will be located at the main entrance and two smaller signs will be located on
each of the two back buildings on the gabled ends facing the parking lots. The dimensions of the
smaller signs meet town code at 12"x60" and the main entrance sign will be larger. Benjamin
Moore Buckland Blue has been selected as a historic paint color for the signs. The applicant is
also required to add number signs for safety purposes and will utilize similar styling.
Lighting -The applicant offered two options to the Committee to light the central parking area in
the back of the buildings, a gooseneck style and a more commercial style to be placed on a pole.
Committee members preferred the gooseneck style. Lighting on the building will be down
lighting only and will remain 3 feet from the pavement.
Members of the Committee expressed excitement about the proposed changes to the existing
buildings. Commissioners appreciate that the applicant has taken into consideration the
historical character of the buildings.
Voting will be continued until the next meeting while the engineering and landscaping plans are
corrected and Mr. Fudala writes the decision.
Motion made by Mr. Robbins to continue the hearing until November 5 at 4:30 p.m.
Motion seconded by Mr. Mills. All voted unanimously.
Other Items:
Board Items:
2
