15 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> February 13, 2017 <br /> ADDITIONAL TOPICS <br /> Non-binding Public Advisory Question—Spent Fuel at Pilgrim Nuclear Plant: <br /> Motion made by Selectman Sherman to place the above topic on the agenda as the <br /> Chairman did not reasonably anticipate this matter would be discussed at this meeting. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman O'Hara. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> Roll Call Vote: <br /> Selectman Gottlieb, yes Selectman Cahalane, yes Selectman O'Hara, yes <br /> Selectman Cotton, yes Selectman Sherman, yes Opposed, none <br /> The Board of Selectmen was in receipt of a petition with the required 10 signatures of Mashpee voters <br /> requesting that a non-binding public advisory question be placed on the ballot to allow the voters the <br /> opportunity to express their opinion. The petitioners are asking voters to instruct the Selectmen "to <br /> communicate with Governor Baker"that spent nuclear fuel generated by the Pilgrim Nuclear Power <br /> Station be placed in secure casks as soon as technically feasible and consistent with the highest <br /> standards, ready to be moved to a permanent federal facility when available in order to protect the <br /> health, welfare and economic interests of the Town of Mashpee. <br /> The petition has been certified accordingly by the Town Clerk. If the Selectmen do not place the <br /> question on the ballot, the petitioners are required to solicit 10% or approximately 1,300 signatures to <br /> place the question on the ballot. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Cahalane to approve the non-binding public advisory question <br /> regarding spent fuel at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant for placement on the May 2017 ballot. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Cotton. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> Roll Call Vote: <br /> Selectman Gottlieb, yes Selectman Cahalane, yes Selectman O'Hara, yes <br /> Selectman Cotton, yes Selectman Sherman, yes Opposed, none <br /> ADJOURNMENT <br /> Motion made by Selectman Sherman to adjourn at 8:55 p.m. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Cotton. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> Roll Call Vote: <br /> Selectman Gottlieb, yes Selectman Cahalane, yes Selectman O'Hara, yes <br /> Selectman Cotton, yes Selectman Sherman, yes Opposed, none <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> Kathleen M.
