Town of Mashpee <br /> Affirmative Action Committee <br /> Meeting Minutes <br /> November 18,2008 <br /> Present: Marilyn Farren, Katherine Brown, Paul Perry, Maryanne Wray <br /> Absent: Theresa Cook <br /> Also Present: Deborah Vaughn, Cassie Fernandes <br /> CALL TO ORDER <br /> The meeting commenced at 5:38 p.m. <br /> APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES: <br /> Motion made by Ms. Wray to accept the minutes of October 28,2008. Motion seconded by Mr. <br /> Perry. All voted unanimously. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> Resignation: <br /> Committee member Karen Murphy has submitted a letter of resignation. Ms. Murphy has enjoyed her <br /> involvement with the No Place for Hate Program but her new full time position and enrollment in a <br /> graduate program will prevent her from continued participation. <br /> Appointment: <br /> Paul Perry has been appointed to the Affirmative Action Committee, and will be sworn in by the Town <br /> Clerk. Additionally,Deborah Vaughn has submitted a letter of interest to Marilyn to join the <br /> Affirmative Action Committee,which will be forwarded to the Board of Selectmen for consideration. <br /> Committee members expressed enthusiasm at having Mr. Perry and Ms. Vaughn join the Committee. <br /> Elect New Chairperson or Co-Chairs: <br /> Ms. Farren announced the nomination of Katherine Brown as Chairperson. Ms. Farren suggested the <br /> possibility of having Co-Chairs if desired, as in the past,to which Ms. Brown agreed. Ms. Brown <br /> nominated Maryanne Wray who accepted. The Committee was in agreement that Ms. Brown and Ms. <br /> Wray would serve as Co-Chairs. <br /> Mural Project Update: <br /> Ms. Vaughn has shared with Cassie Fernandes the name of Alyssa Perry, a freshman interested in <br /> assisting Ms. Fernandes with the mural project. Ms. Perry was involved with creating the <br /> Homecoming float and was delighted to be asked to assist with the mural. Ms. Vaughn and Ms. <br /> Fernandes will be requesting from school maintenance the dimensions of the space where the mural <br /> will be stored, as well as seek advice regarding the appropriate materials to use for the project. Ms. <br /> Wray suggested creating a folding screen, which would provide greater mobility and flexibility for <br /> storage. The screen will be housed at the high school when not in use, but will travel throughout town <br /> to other schools, Town Hall or be included in various town-wide events. The Committee discussed <br /> looking for a screen at the Mill Stores or purchase plywood that would be attached by hinges. Each <br /> panel could feature graffiti sayings and images. Ms. Farren shared a handout describing the project <br /> created by the town of Randolph along with a photo of their sidewalk mural. Ms. Fernandes intends to <br /> create a layout of her ideas once she meets with Ms. Perry. Ms. Farren noted that this will be the first <br />
