the May 12, 2009 meeting will be re-distributed to Committee members for additional information <br /> about Ms. Wray's meeting. <br /> Wall Mural Update: <br /> Committee members discussed the library as the next location for the mural. Ms. Brow stated that <br /> she has a friend with experience in creating murals who may be interested in serving as an advisor to <br /> students interested in painting the opposite side of the mural for a Senior Project. Ms. Vaughn <br /> indicated that students have not yet begun their Senior Projects but that this class of students is well <br /> prepared for the project and have been planning for some time. <br /> Cape Cod Coalition. Meeting Report: <br /> Ms. Wray reported that the June program was a roundtable discussion allowing each town program to <br /> share their ideas and activities. In addition to the Martin Luther King Breakfast, Falmouth hosts No <br /> Place for Hate song singing and interpretation of Martin Luther King's speeches. In Harwich, a soup <br /> kitchen designed to reach out to the homeless features a menu of international soups and bread. Also, <br /> the group uses the World of Difference Curriculum from No Place for Hate and sponsored a craft show <br /> at their town's picnic,personally inviting new members of the town to attend the picnic. Barnstable <br /> hosts a Peace breakfast at the high school,Peace Week, diversity quilt, community cookbook, <br /> recognizes students for their efforts in diversity and forums about hate, elder abuse and immigrants. <br /> Police, clergy and students are actively involved and are members of the Committee. Provincetow <br /> received national recognition for their protocols for hate crimes and hosts an immigration potluck <br /> party,pizza party at Town Hall and the ADL provides training for the police. Duxbury has an <br /> Interfaith Council which incorporates No Place for Hate. The South Shore Coalition Group has an <br /> email tree that allows the reporting of incidents to all members of the group, which provides an <br /> opportunity for others to be supportive. Additionally,the group meets two times each year and <br /> sponsored a chalk event for kids and a walk of respect on the beach. Additionally,they created a <br /> postcard with an aerial photo of"Take a Stand in the Sand." <br /> Additional Future No Place for Hate Activities: <br /> Mashpee Reads-Ms. Vaughn suggested that the Committee become involved with the Mashpec Reads <br /> program, sponsored by the Friends of Mashpee Library. The Affirmative Action Committee could <br /> select an appropriate book to read. Ms. Farren reported that the Anti-Defamation League has created a <br /> list of suggested books. Ms. Farren will forward the list of books to the Committee and contact the <br /> Library Director for more details. Committee members discussed the importance of focusing on a <br /> particular age group,noting the possibility of working with adults. <br /> Peace/Goodwill Breal fast-Ms. Vaughn suggested the idea of a Peace/Goodwill Breakfast at the high <br /> school, incorporating the efforts of both the Human Rights Group and Pro Start. Ms. Wray added that <br /> a speaking event and/or essays about the meaning of Martin Luther King's work could be added to the <br /> event. Ms. Vaughn will speak with the advisors of the group. Ms. Farren added that the <br /> Superintendent is very supportive of the No Place for Hate program. <br /> Calendar Art Contest-Ms. Farren has been in contact with the Quashnet School regarding the 251x' <br /> Anniversary Calendar Art Contest. The school is very interested in participating and Ms. Farren and <br /> Ms. Brown presented the activity at an assembly for the students last week. The deadline for the <br /> artwork is October 2 and Ms. Brown and Ms. Farren have been invited to return and view the art <br /> projects. The Calendar of Art brochure has been enlarged to appear on a poster for display purposes at <br /> the school. <br /> 2 <br />
