The
motion was seconded by Ms. Vaughn. All voted unanimously.
AGENDA ITEMS:
Diversity Breakfast 2010-Lucille Bocco
Ms. Bocco attended the meeting to provide an update about the Diversity Breakfast 2010 featuring a
theme of Peace, Love and Harmony. The event has expanded to include Latin dancing, yoga, speakers
Mrs. Fields and Mr. Zefzaf, a flag ceremony in honor of Mr. Ford, Acapella singers, guitar music, an
award ceremony for the writing and artwork contests along with the pancake breakfast. The program
has been expanded to encourage greater participation from the community. Ms. Bocco has enjoyed
organizing the event and plans to serve as master of ceremonies.
Ms. Bocco inquired about the availability of a No Place for Hate(NPFH) poster to which Ms. Farren
responded that the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) recommended that the logo be enlarged to poster
size. Ms. Farren suggested that the poster could then be signed by breakfast attendees. Ms. Farren
added that she has been in receipt of NPFH buttons and pencils and could provide additional banners
and/or brochures about the program to share with event attendees. Additionally, Cassie Fernandes'
traveling mural would be available for display at the event. It was suggested that the NPFH logo be
added to the agenda as the event is considered an approved activity with the ADL. Ms. Wray added
that NPFH's inclusion in the program may allow greater opportunity to pursue future grants. All
Committee members expressed interest in the program being a success, with a goal of establishing it as
an annual event.
As part of the event, Ms. Bocco has incorporated a writing and artwork contest, with winners being
recognized at the breakfast. Ms. Vaughn stated that the contest would receive coverage in an
upcoming issue of the Enterprise in an effort to invite members of the community to participate in both
the contest and the breakfast. Ms. Bocco reported that the high school's National Art Honor Society
will design peace posters and also manage the artwork contest. Ms. Farren recommended that students
who have been selected for the ADL's World of Difference Calendar also be recognized at the
breakfast. It was recommended that Ms. Bocco contact Mrs. Arnold, the Vice Principal at the
Quashnet School and/or Ms. McHugh, Guidance Counselor, both of whom assisted with coordinating
the school's involvement with the calendar.
