Suggestion for amulti-step approach to the project
The ultimate goal of dredging the river to the last house is
constrained by high costs and lack of a dewatering site for offsite
transportation of sediments, if land filling is the solution. Approval
agency acceptance of "Marsh Restoration" beyond Orsini Beach is
problematical, but it is a Cost effective and potentially doable
I
solution.
Feedback on some Agency comments indicated no marsh front
Concern, due to the plethora of docks up to Orsini Beach.
After Marsh Restoration (first Phase) demonstrates sediment
containment without reducing productivity, proceeding with the
original scope should be achievable
Potential Areas to evaluate (need consultant
To minimize initial costs & challenge, make the restoration a two-
phase project with an Orsini Beach demarcation point. Permitting
agency concerns related to marsh front beyond Orsini Beach can be
addressed by demonstrating a successful first phase.
Room constraints for marsh restoration would likely apply to the
first phase only and might be addressed by a combination of marsh
reconstruction, dredge volume reduction {50'-X wide by 3'-Y deep}
and Bourne landfill utilization with the new marsh structure
providing a temporary dewatering site.
Next Step
Request Board of Selectmen provide funding for a detailed
evaluation of atwo-phased combination marsh front/Landfill
solution.
