11 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> April 7. 2003 <br /> NEWBUSINESS: <br /> ProppM Tax Abatement Program. <br /> The property tax abatement program is designed to match municipal <br /> position opportunities with eligible Senior Mashpee'taxpayers seeking tax <br /> relief, and assist them in the payment ofro ert tax bills through tax <br /> p p g <br /> abatement payment for volunteer services-rendered to the Town. <br /> The property tax abatement program currently in place and overseen by <br /> the Council on Aging has an income cap not to exceed$26,500. The cap <br /> as it is presently set, limits a large portion of the senior population from <br /> participation. The-program-allows-for a-maximum abatement of$ 00 per- <br /> tax <br /> year per household. The wage.rate-of$ .15 per hour would-allow for <br /> twenty senior citizens to volunteer an estimated 95 hours of service. <br /> Motion made by�Selectman Cah bane-to reklase the-cap on the <br /> Property Tax Abatement Program. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman-Marsters,, <br /> VO Unanimous, 4-0. <br /> It was noted that there is an amendment now in effect whereby <br /> communities who accept the statute can grant abatements up to $750. In <br /> addition, the hourly rate of$6.75 is higher. The Selectmen agreed to <br /> address the issues relative to the amendment at the October Ton <br /> 1leetirig. <br /> OLD BUSINESS: <br /> mashpee' River Dredge ate <br /> The Town of Mshpee is presently investigating alternatives for dredge <br /> disposal as it relates to the Mashpee River dredge project. Alternatives <br /> under review include; <br /> Offshore Disposal—Mechanical Dredging by urge <br /> Islands/Marsh Islands - Creation in Riven or Bay <br /> cway Bay Site—Town lamp Parking Lot <br /> Mauling of Dredge Material to Bourne Landfill <br /> The Waterways Commission has held informal discussions with the <br /> Conservation Commission regarding disposal of dredge spoils. Town <br /> Corel has ruled that conservation lands cannot be used for the disposal <br /> of dredge spoils. An investigative report is forthcoming. <br />
