4 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> June 2 , 2003 <br /> Joint Mectm" —Finance Committee <br /> Health Benefits Discussion: (continued) <br /> Finance Committee member Carlton Meredith indicated that 65 people are <br /> currently receiving retired health benefits. To date here are 5 13 active <br /> employee's, In FY04, 176 employees' both school and town will achieve <br /> a 1 -year milestone. Ninety-one employees will achieve 15 years next <br /> fiscal year. In calendar 2003 dollars, the cost is estimated at $2,000 per <br /> employee per year. To maintain the % contribution level without major <br /> property tax increases, there world need to be drastic staff reductions. <br /> The Finance Committee has recommended the Selectmen consider setting <br /> the rate at 0%,the minimum that is mandated by the Mate. In addition, <br /> the Finance Committee suggested that the level selected be subject to <br /> periodic review for retired and active employee's. A three-year plan was <br /> recon ended for review and adjustment purposes. <br /> The Selectmen agreed to consider continuing the % split with the <br /> intent of looking at the d'own's health benefit package now being offered <br /> to all town employees to seek potential reductions and efficiencies. Health <br /> benefits are noted to be subject to contract negotiations. During <br /> negotiations, the Town's health benefit contribution for retiree's would be <br /> considered with the contract negotiation process so that it would be <br /> reviewed every three years. It was agreed that a committee be formed to <br /> address this matter. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Cahalane to close the Public Hearing. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Taylor. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. -o. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Cahalane to continue the Town's % <br /> health benefit contribution for retiree's and their spouses. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Taylor. <br />' VOTE: Unanimous. -o. <br /> Selectman Green, Selectman 1larsters absent. <br /> Joint Appo.intment to Finance Committee: <br /> A letter of interest was received from Marshall Brem to serve on the <br /> Finance Committee dated June I o, 2003. Mr. Brenn withdrew his <br /> application for appointment. 'Rhee was no action. <br />
