Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> June 24, 2003 <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: f <br /> Joint Meetin —Finance Committee: <br /> Health Benefits Discussion: <br /> Selectman Green and Selectmen larsters stepped down for the above <br /> referenced discussion. <br /> The Board of Selectmen met with the Finance Committee for the purpose <br /> of determining the percentage the Town will pay for health insurance <br /> premiums for retired town employees and their spouses. Case law has <br /> established the rate setting as an executive function, The Selectmen, at the <br /> Special Town Meeting of June 2d, agreed to set the rate prior to July 1, <br /> 2003. <br /> The discussion was opened to solicit public comment. <br /> Patricia Nicks, a nineteen year retiree and widow indicated that a <br /> reduction in the health benefit contribution would create a personal <br /> hardship. Ms. Hicks noted that the cost of living is high, and that she is <br /> presently living on limited pension funds, <br /> Former Treasurer/Tax Collector Anne Shave stated that precedent has been <br /> set for thirty years. Retiree's were led to believe that the Town's % <br /> contribution was a part of their salary package, lis.
