6 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> October 7, 2003 <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> ; <br /> Fire Chief: <br /> Recommendation mmendation for Bid Acceptance—Ambulance Billie <br /> George Baker, Fire Chief was present to recommend the Board award the <br /> bid for electronic ambulance billing services to Coastal Medical Billing. <br /> Funding would derive from the ambulance receipts account. It was noted <br /> that this is a necessary component of the department to achieve the desired <br /> collection rate. <br /> Coastal's price proposal i % of the arnounts collected to the Town. <br /> They will deposit all funds directly into a Ton account, and bill the <br /> Town for the amount due. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Taylor to award the Ambulance Billing <br /> bid to Coastal Medical Billing, Inc. of Nlanchaug,NIA as <br /> recommended, <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Cahalane# <br /> vo'I : Unanimous. 3-0. <br /> Fire Chief—Request for Ambulance Receipt Abatements: <br /> Cbief Baker requested the Selectmen abate for FYo I,the sura of <br /> $136,779.22 order to retire outstanding debt owed to the Ambulance <br /> Receipts Reserved for Appropriation Account. Detailed data was <br /> submitted to support this request. <br /> It was noted that some ofthe amounts are balance clue after insurance <br /> payments, some are total amounts due after three bills to the customer that <br /> have not been paid, and some are simply carried over to the next year. <br /> In response, the Selectmen requested the Fire Chief meet with the Town <br /> Administrator to review collection options. In the future, it was agreed <br /> that the Selectmen would develop polio for outstanding ambulance <br /> collections. The matter will appear as an upcoming agenda topic of <br /> discussion. <br />
