13 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> December 15, 2003 <br /> APPOINTMENTS A T HEARINGS: <br /> Recycling Committee Update: <br /> The Recycling Committee and the DPW made a brief presentation on the <br /> status of recycling in Mashpee, its benefits and the options for increasing <br /> participation. <br /> total of 21 materials are now accepted at the Transfer Station for <br /> recycling and reuse. To date, 3,989 tons of MSW has been disposed of <br /> at S 1 I SS, and 1,756 tons of material has been recycled. In 2002, <br /> $30,000 r a.s saved by recycling glass, plastic, aluminum, newspaper and <br /> cardboard. <br /> It was suggested the Town explore options to increase the participation of <br /> recycling through education, enforcement of waste bans, commingling <br /> materials, curbside collection, PAYT (pay as you throw), collaboration <br /> with other towns, and inclusion of businesses and multi-family res'dences. <br /> The Selectmen recommended that education materials be considered as an <br /> insert in the tax bill mailings. <br /> i <br />
