S
Community Preservation Committee
Minutes
November 16, 2017
Mashpee Conservation Commission/Mashpee Planning..Board/Mashpee DPW
Catherine Laurent, Andrew McManus-Mashpee Greenway„/Ouashnet River_Path and Footbridge
(continued)
The Town is not proposing an additional sidewalk on this stretch of the road. With the bridge
and trail way depicted in the Greenway Plan, users would not be required to cross Route 151 to
access the sidewalk.
If the project does not move forward with Town Meeting approval, unexpended funds would
revert to the CPC.
Charlie Rowley, the Town's Engineer will most likely attend the next meeting to further review
this project. It was disclosed the original budget was submitted by the Planning Board and not
by the Director of Public Works.
_Mashpee Historic District Commission, Ava Costello, Mashpee American Revolutions y War
Memorial:
Ava Costello, Chair of the Mashpee Historical Commission was in attendance with Historical
Commission member Richard DeSorgher and Earl Mills Chair of the Historic District
Commission to discuss the application relative to the siting of an American Revolutionary War
Memorial in the Town of Mashpee. Currently, there is no memorial to honor the American
Revolutionary War Veterans. It is the intent of the Historical Commission and Historic District
Commission to recognize the contributions of all Veterans in all military conflicts who have
served the Town of Mashpee.
Ms. Costello indicated that a great deal of research has been ongoing to identify those who
served and gave the ultimate sacrifice during the American Revolutionary War. It was recently
discovered that a Massachusetts Matching Grant program is being offered. A Letter of Intent
was submitted to the Massachusetts State Historical Records Advisory Board, Preservation for
Veterans Collections, Monuments and Memorials on November 15, 2017. The full application is
due on January 15, 2018.
Matching funds are required, and it is hopeful the project would move forward to the May 2018
Special Town Meeting for the appropriation of funding. The cost of the proposed project is
$30,000. The CPA funding request is $15,000.
