PRE/POST-HEARING AGENDA
Update: DEP prescreening conference call summary
The Agent updated the Commission on the DEP prescreening call. He, Brad Sweet and
Dale McKay were present, He summarized there was much discussion on definitions.
The opponents' main opposition is they consider the materials to be coastal engineering
structures. In the opinion of the opponents, zigzag fencing, core envelopes, sand bags,
fiber roles constitute engineering structures and therefore, it doesn't meet the
performance standards. The proponents don't agree with that because the structures are
biodegradable. The Agent noted the adjudicatory hearing is scheduled to be held
sometime in July.
Update: Conservation Camera Images — Mashpee Police Department
The Agent spoke about the cameras that have been placed at the gates at John's Pond
into the conservation lands. They have forwarded the images of vehicles, jeeps and trucks
and motorcycles to the police chief. He said he will be sending out fines when he gets
contact information and follow up with a newspaper article so the public is aware. He
noted they also need to replace signs at this location.
Update: Status.of Mashpee Herring Runs
DPW and. Division of Marine Fisheries were made aware of the Mashpee herring run
where the erosion control is starting to fall apart and is becoming compromised. The repair
will be addressed. The herring are in full runs now, especially early morning and late
afternoon.
Discussion: Americorps project — signage around Town showing historic high
water marks at Town landings and marinas.
Americorps volunteers are working on a project to find historic high water areas and will
be putting up signage. They identified some areas around town landings.
Motion: Mr. Shaw moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Mr. Gurnee. Vote
unanimous 5-0 Meeting adjourned 7:35 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Judy Daigneault, Recording Secretary
5
