r
consult about where to put mulch. He said once he pulls all his plugs out if he has plants
to spare he would like to plant some meadow flowers. Ms. Cadoret said their next work
day is at the beginning of April. She said they cleaned out some trash at several of the
conservation areas. There was a couch at Santuit Pond and household trash at Charles
River. The Chair asked is it time for the Mashpee Environmental Coalition ,Stewards
who has adopted Santuit Pond to go out there and check. Ms. Cadoret said yes the
sooner the better since the weather is nice. She noted Noisy Hole is getting a lot of
reports of trash dumping. She wasn't quite sure where they were accessing the areas.
She noted since mattresses are now free that is a good incentive to bring them to the
transfer station rather than dumping them.
Interactive Trail Marking
Ms. Cadoret said trail cameras are being added to several locations. The cameras are
rechargeable and powered by solar. Mr. Collins said if there is a pattern or any particular
problem to let him know and he would contact the police department to have them set up
some of their cameras.
She said they are still in the process of creating interactive mapping of the trails. There is
a lot of interest in trail maps and Mary Kay is helping with Quashnet Trail.
There was a discussion regarding The Appalachian Mountain Club and if they could be
considered to be contacted see if there is a local club that would be willing to help with
the trails.
Ms. Cadoret stated that the Conservation Commission will hopefully be certifying two
vernal pools this spring in a couple areas. The National Heritage not only shows the
certified vernal pools around town but also the estimated vernal pools so they are either
to be certified or not applicable anymore.
Farley Bog Restoration
Mr. McKay said the Conservation Commission has assigned Mark Gurnee as liaison.
Mr. Gottlieb said representatives from the Rod and Gun Club made a presentation to the
Board of Selectmen and he will be the Selectmen's liaison to the working group. The
Conservation Commission has endorsed the concept but expressed concern about the
ponds having open water with sunshine on it. The faster the water flows the better and
the more shaded it is the better for the brook trout. The working group will be meeting
on May 6. Mr. Gottlieb said he is partial to a lease and they are open to either purchase
or lease but they would prefer to buy.
