BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES MEETING
TUESDAY,AUGUST 9,201.6
MASIIPEE LIBRARY CONFERENCE ROOM
Present: Carlo D'Este,Joan Lyons,Marcia Maclnnis,and Kate Milde.
Absent: Maty LeClair,Allen Waters, and Mark Wright.
Also Present: Kathy Mahoney–Library Director
Michael Talbot–Talbot Ecological Land Care
Since a quorum was not present initially,Mike Talbot started an informal review of the proposed front courtyard
landscape design. At 4;25 p.m. a quorum was present and the meeting officially opened with Mike Talbot
continuing his presentation.
Library Landscape Design Proi•ect–Mike Talbot
• Mike said he was on site with Chris Hendershot last week.
• Mike explained the front courtyard landscape layout and the plant listing provided in the submitted
proposal.
• If result is that they use smaller size plantings than in the proposal, they will rebate the price,
• Mike pointed out the red maple tree selected would create some shade.
• Plan shows picnic table area, but picnic table not included in the proposal.
• Final pricing came to $10,000 but they dropped it a little so proposal amount is $9,986.
• Irrigation is a big issue, but he said there is a hose bin available at the site so conceivably there could be
a temporary system set up just to get through the first season to get plants established. After first
season, only trees would have to be watered.
• Everything proposed in the Plan is drought tolerant—not a lot of watering needed; all are well-adapted
plants.
Kathy Mahoney asked if the irrigation system would be a drip irrigation system. Mike responded"no";
irrigation would be from sprinklers. Kathy said that according to DPW the Town prohibits any irrigation system
being hooked to Town water. Mike said that's only for a permanent system, not for temporary, timed system
hooked to a hose.
Carlo D'Este inquired as to latest timeframe to do this project. Mike said late October/November,which would
actually be the better time to do it. Mike said if some plants are not available at that time, they would put those
plants in at the Spring season, at no additional cost,
Mike Talbot exited the meeting.
