Mashpee - Wakeby Lake Management
Committee
March 24, 2016
7:30 PM
Mashpee Town Hall
Meeting called by: Debi McManus
Type of meeting: Monthly
Secretary Barbara B.Nichols
Attendees: Members: Brian Mauro, Barbara Nichols
Guests:
The minutes of the January 28, 2016 meeting were accepted as written after a motion by Debi McManus
and second by Brian Mauro.
Agenda. topics
[Agenda topic 11 Lake level/River outflow
Discussion: Barbara took the lake measurements on February 1St and 16th. They were 55.4 and 55.5 ft.
above sea level with 12 and 14 inches of water flowing over the board. They were also done on March lst
and 16th, and there were 55.5 and 55.6 ft. above sea level with 11.5 and 16. 5 inches of water flowing over
the board. Just prior to the last measurement. DPW had been in and cleaned out the sand downriver from
the gate enclosure. Measurements were emailed to Drew McManus in Conservation.
On March 2nd Drew had emailed me to let me know that a Redwood Circle resident was concerned about
the river erosion on their bank not far below the gate enclosure on the river. Drew asked if I would meet
him at the gate enclosure, and review lake measurements and consider whether DPW's sand removal
would increase erosion. Barbara met Drew on March 3'd along with Katelyn Cadoret, his assistant, and
review of measurements showed that March 1St measurements for the last 4 years were consistent at 55.6
in 2013 and 55.5 in 2014-2016 with no change in boards. We agreed that sand removal had little effect on
the river flow and decided to remove sand just downriver from the gate enclosure this year, which was
done soon after.
Conclusions: The lake level is running between 55.4 and 55.6 ft. above sea level. Sand was removed from
the river downstream of the gate enclosure by DPW.
[Agenda topic 2] Harbormaster Position
Discussion: Interviews are being held for the Harbormaster positon. It is hoped to have it filled soon.
The rest of the staff will need to be hired and trained before the summer season.
Conclusions: The harbormaster should be appointed soon.
