[Agenda topic 3] New Harbormaster
Discussion: The new Harbormaster, who began serving the town on July 25"' attended our meeting and
introduced himself. He has a Criminal justice degree and lives in Plymouth, and has worked there and in
Falmouth. He is also a graduate of the Police Academy and a part time police officer. He was interested in
suggestions of what we felt were problems that needed to be taken care of. The committee encouraged
him to write a few tickets for flagrant violations instead of just verbal warnings and education. He
suggested coverage on the lake might be 11:30 to 7:30 to help clear the lake of riders of personal
watercraft that do not leave the lake at 7 PM as signs note. To reach the harbormaster with problems,
continue to notify dispatch at the police department. The harbormaster felt that boating rule signs should
be written in Portuguese which this committee recommended previously, but never got help from the
state.
On busy week ends, overflow parking of those with no town stickers are using the Community Park
parking lot.
Motorized wakeboards are now available, which present a new problem for the harbormaster as there are
no rules, but boards should be registered if they have a motor.
Bigger boats are being launched at the ramp. Boat length can't be regulated without the cooperation of
Mashpee, Sandwich and the State.
Conclusions: The committee was pleased to meet the harbormaster and have a discussion with him.
[Agenda.topic 4] Lowell Holly
Discussion: The swim buoys were placed to prevent motorized boats from entering the swim area on the
Mashpee side of Lowell Holly on July 3,d.
Conclusions: The Trustees have placed swim buoys to keep motorized boats from the swim area and
discourage long term use of the beach.
[Agenda topic 5]
Discussion:
Conclusions:
The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
0
Barbara B.Nichols
