With evidence of a well maintained building, the Town has received
approval to move forward with this phase of the project. In the first phase of the reimbursement
program,a feasibility study and schematic design are required. If funding is received, the Town of
Mashpee would receive an approximate reimbursement rate of 39%or$700,000 to assist with the
$1.75 million project. The School Department expects to fund the feasibility study which is estimated
to cost$15,000.
In reviewing options to fund a project of this magnitude, the Superintendent was asked if School
Choice funding could be utilized to offset costs. Ms. DeBoer indicated that it is not permissible to use
School Choice funding for the window project. However, the school may be able to make adjustments
to assist with this project. It was noted the Superintendent has not discussed this aspect of the project
with the School Committee. It is hopeful the School Department would look at resources within its
control to make this an equal partnership with the Town and split the remaining costs of the project.
Ms. Laurent indicated this is an accelerated program. It was recommended that funding be considered
for the October Town Meeting as the MSBA is committed to projects moving forward.
