Conservation Commission
Minutes of October 26, 2017
Public Hearings
Mashpee Town Hall
Waquoit Meeting Room
Commissioners Present: Dale McKay, Brad Sweet, Chad Smith, Thomas O'Neill,
Robert Anderson, Bud Shaw
Staff Present: Drew McManus (Conservation Agent), and Judy Daigneault
(Recording Secretary)
CALL MEETING TO ORDER: 5.55 p.m,
The meeting was called to order with a quorum by Chairman Dale McKay at 5:57 p.m.
There was no public comment
PRE/POST-HEARING AGENDA:
Minutes: Approve September 28 & October 12, 2017 Minutes
Motion: Mr. Smith moved to approve the September 28, 2017 minutes, seconded
by Mr. Smith. Vote unanimous 6-0
Hold October 92 minutes until November 9 meeting.
ADDITIONAL TOPICS (This space is reserved for topics that the Chairman did not
reasonably anticipate would be discussed).
The Agent gave an update on.AmeriCorps projects that Katelyn Cadoret is working on.
One of the projects is the Santuit Pond Preserve around the fish ladder on the hillside
which has quite a bit of erosion. It is an area of archeological sensitivity with the Tribe
and they have no issue with the project. AmeriCorps will be going in to install the steps
to take care of the runoff and erosion. The other project that AmeriCorps will be working
on will be to help us clear an old access road that leads up to the fish ladder. We are
also seeking the assistance of Justin Fleming from the Sea Run Brook Trout Coalition to
fix some ATV damage that has occurred on a stretch of river just downstream of the fish
ladder. The ATV damage has crossed over this section of the river and expanded the
banks and flattened them. Justin Fleming will assist in re-establishing the river bank
using woody debris. We will also ask DPW to install an ATV structure to prevent them
from crossing over that area in the future.
HEARINGS:
6:00 Eric P. Rothenberg and Pamela Ely, 98 Spoondrift Circle. Proposed
installation of outdoor shower, landscape and hardscape improvements. NOl
Resource Area: LSCSF, Buffer Zone to Coastal Bank, Salt Marsh, Land Under
Ocean
1
1
