He said the new Natural Resource
Department is up and running, They have 5 million quahogs and tomorrow they are planting the
very last of those. 2,480 bags of oyster seeds were placed into the Mashpee River and the 2,000
bags in Shoestring Bay are growing very well. They have been seeding quahogs into Great River
and started seeding in Jehu Pond and Ockway Bay. They also seeded Popponesset Bay,
Popponesset Creek, Waquoit Bay and have been trapping the crabs aggressively. Next year, they
plan to expand the amount of quahogs growing and the second acre of oyster bed. Mr. York
stated his original plan was a three year aggressive plan but now he is hoping for a five year
implementation. He reported the harvesting of oysters is only recreational right now but in the
future he is hoping to have commercial harvesting in Shoestring Bay.
