restoration efforts of Cape Cod water resources. Al said the BCCRC is the County's
coastal advisory committee which serves as a liaison between towns and the County on
coastal issues and is the local governance committee for the Cape Cod region of the
Massachusetts Bays Program. Region wide reporting shows that 55% of
Massachusetts' assessed waters are impaired due to storm -water. Six minimum control
measures utilized in the battle against storm water pollution include public education,
public involvement, illicit discharge (any discharge not composed entirely of storm -water
like sanitary wastewater, septic tank effluent, car wash wastewater, improper oil
disposal, radiator flushing disposal, laundry wastewaters, spills from roadway accidents
and improper disposal of auto and household toxic materials), construction runoff, post -
construction storm -water management and pollution prevention. In Mashpee, we can
see efforts to curb storm -water pollution at the Mashpee Neck landing.
Public Access: A renewed filing process is underway for improvements to the Great
River boat ramp project.
Waterways Improvement Plan and Dredging: Ken reported we were waiting far -the
close out of the response period for the comprehensive plan. He estimated this would
occur on February 26th. Rick mentioned how the deep muck in our rivers and bays
limits the oyster propagation. He pointed out a project in New Bedford where deep holes
were being dug and the muck was being pushed into these holes. Ken had hoped the
Great River/Little River and 1916 channels would be surveyed in early March, weather
depending. He also said that the approach channel dredge equipment should arrive by
1 March.
New Business:
A motion to adjourn at 10:34 was made by Tim Leedham, 2"d by Don MacDonald. The
vote was unanimous.
The next scheduled meeting is April 12th, 2016 at 9:00 AM in the Popponesset Room
and there would ne no meeting in March.
Ken Bates - Chairman
Don MacDonald - Vice Chairman
Al Wickel - Secretary
Tim Leedham
Bill Taylor
Don Barton
Stan Healy
