MINUTES OF MASHPEE WATERWAYS COMMISSION MEETING <br />9 August, 2016 <br />Chairman Bates called the meeting to order at 9:04 AM at the Mashpee Town Hall in <br />the Ockway Bay Meeting Room <br />Present: Al Wickel, Don Barton, Ken Bates, Stanton Healy, Don MacDonald, Bill Taylor <br />Absent: Tim Leedham <br />Also In Attendance: Mashpee Harbormaster Al Turner <br />Minutes of July 12th , 2016 Meeting: Motion made by Don MacDonald to approve the <br />minutes, 2"d by Stan Healy and unanimously approved. <br />Communications & Correspondence: Review of announcement and attendance by <br />Chairman Bates to Town's (BOS) public hearing on Mike Ronhocks shellfish license <br />application process. Don Barton voiced his concerns regarding the increased number of <br />aquaculture operations and the responsibilities that need to be addressed by the <br />operators regarding storm damage, debris and equipment damage. Don felt that the <br />applications should require proof of bonding by the applicant. Ken Bates informed the <br />group that the BOS would review the Waterway's articles for the fall Town meeting <br />soon. <br />OLD BUSINESS: <br />Harbormaster Report: <br />• Chairman Bates introduced the town's new Harbormaster, Al Turner. Al reported <br />that the holiday season has been quite busy. On Waquoit Bay, a number of no <br />wake violations had been issued and that a sailboat grounding had been <br />responded to. No injuries or damage to the vessel were reported. Safety <br />inspections were accomplished with very good results noted. In Popponesset <br />Bay, he reported that children had been seen swimming in the narrow channel <br />along the spit. Parents were notified of the dangers and asked to refrain from <br />swimming in the channel per signage on location. John's Pond had a report of a <br />float plane landing. It was observed that the anchorage of the float plane was too <br />close to designated swim areas and the pilot when notified, relocated the craft. <br />Mashpee Wakeby was very busy with a PFD violation being issued and that <br />ramp when a vessel was launched and an infant was not wearing a PFD while <br />being held in the mother's arms. <br />
