MASHPEE WATERWAYS COMMISSION <br />MASHPEE TOWN HALL, MASHPEE, MA <br />MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 15, 20'16 MEETING <br />Chairman Ken Bates called the meeting to order at 9:04 AM at the Mashpee Town Hail <br />in the Popponesset Meeting Room <br />Present: Don Barton, Ken Bates, Don MacDonald, Bill Taylor, Al' Turner, Rick York, <br />Ashley Harrigan, Amber Rosa, Catherine Laurent, Tom and Nick Smith, Jim Reiffarth <br />Absent: Al Wickel (On phone), Tim Leedham, Stan Healy <br />Minutes of the October 12th Meeting: Motion made by Don MacDonald to approve <br />minutes, 2 I by Don Barton and unanimously approved. <br />Communications & Correspondence <br />Harbormaster Report: Al Turner reported the town vessels are out and only the Safe <br />Boat stays in. Markers are out in Poppy and Waquoit. Winter sticks are in.There was an <br />oil sheen reported in Little River which turned out to be about Y2 gallon of gear oil from a <br />bucket. No violations or boating issues to report. Al has completed 3 certifications, Crew <br />Member Course, Boat Operator & Rescue and Tactical Operations. <br />Shellfish Constable Report: Rick reported all is going well. 4,480 oyster spat have <br />been placed with 2,480 in Mashpee River and 2,000 in Shoestring Bay from a Tribe <br />EPA Grant. There are 5 million cohogs seeded. There was never a Toxic Bloom found <br />in dangerous levels this year as there was in Buzzards Bay. Rick noted that Scott <br />Gallagher at Woods Hole has developed a new test for Phytoplankton to detect toxins. <br />DPW Report: Catherine stated that the Great River Ramp has hit a snag. We are at <br />2,039 sq. ft. which is 39 sq. ft. over the limit for this project. We are still working on the <br />signage issues and Al will work with Catherine. <br />Mashpee/Wakeby Management Committee: There were no action items recorded by <br />Don MacDonald. Water in the spillway is at normal levels. <br />Popponesset Report: Harbormaster reported no issues <br />Water Quality: Don MacDonald reported there is no news from the team. The 2015 <br />presentation to the town was informative and availableonline at the town site. <br />
