(�f Alaslipee t_ listorical C;oma is.siori 16 Great Neck Road North Mashpee, M4 02649 Telephone - (508) 539-1438, MASHPEE HISTORICAL COMMISSION Minutes of Meeting— July 30, 2015 The Town of Mashpee Historical Commission meeting was called to order in the Archives at 10:30 am by Nancy Soderberg, Chairperson, Commissioners Present: Brian Hyde, Frank Lord, Rosemary Burns Love, Joan Tavares -Avant, Ava Costello, and Nancy Soderberg, Commissioners not Present; Gordon Peters. Guests in attendance: Rodney Collins, Town Manager; John Cotton, Selectmen and Commission Liaison; and Sam Houghton from the Mashpee Enterprise. In our newly renovated Archives, we have a very large old library desk which was given to the Mashpee Library by the Woburn (MA) library in 1950 and passed along to the Archives. We want to keep it, but the top of the desk needs to be refinished so that the desk can be used. This tall the students at the Mashpee High School will undertake the project. Both our Town Manager, Rodney Collins, and our Selectman -liaison, John Cotton, are very supportive in our efforts to keep it and have it repaired. Rodney Collins mentioned to us that he has always been interested in other historical societies in places where he previously lived. He is more than willing to support our efforts as we go forward in setting up the Mashpee Archives as we see fit. There are a few more environmental issues to be addressed before our records and holdings can be returned from Anchor Self -Storage where they have been stored for the past 3-112 years. We will need some additional shelving both on the first floor and in the basement of the building. We are fortunate to have a newly appointed Commissioner, Ava Costello. She has an impressive background as a faculty member of the History Department at Northeastern University in Boston, MA.
