[Agenda topic 3] Boat Size Limitation
Discussion: Andrew Gottlieb brought up the subject of trying to limit boat length to 26 ft.in Mashpee and
Wakeby lakes at the December I". Town meeting. The Selectmen voted to approach Sandwich about
setting a limit, which would also have to be approved by the State due to the lake size. Joyce Masson wrote
to Sandwich requesting a meeting on the issue as this is a shared natural resource. Unfortunately, an
editorial in the newspaper mentioned limiting motor horsepower which was never mentioned. Clarifying
the intended limitations will be necessary before any public hearing on the matter, Also, we may need to
get pictures of some of the large boats being launched next summer.
Conclusions: Mashpee has approved the idea and a meeting with Sandwich to explore the issue of limiting
boat size to 26 ft. has been sent by the Town.
[Agenda topic 4] Boat Parade
Discussion: Linda Smith reported she met with Mary Bradbury, and tentatively set the date for the boat
parade as August 1st. She will meet with Mary soon and they hoped to locate a corporate sponsor to help
with costs. Parking limitations at Attaquin beach could be a problem, as food trucks would be invited,
Publicity could be helped by the ramp attendant handing out flyers to boat launchers.
Conclusions: Linda is meeting with Recreation Dept. planning a boat parade on the lakes for next
sunnner.
[Agenda topic 5] Duck Hunting
Discussion: Brian wondered if anyone had information on duck hunting on the lake as there has recently
been an upsurge on shotgun sounds on the lake. No one knew the laws, so Brian will contact
Environmental Management to see what current laws are regarding shooting on the lake.
Conclusions: Brian will contact Environmental Management regarding local hunting laws
The meeting was adjoarned at 8:05 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Barbara B. Nichols
