Mashpee - Wakeby Lake Management
Committee
April 23, 2015
7:30 PM
Mashpee Town Hall
Meeting Called by: Debi McManus
Type of meeting: Monthly
Secretary Barbara B. Nichols
Attendees: Members: Brian Mauro, Donald MacDonald, Barbara Nichols
Guests: Steve Mone, Harbormaster, Diane Lang TTOR
The minutes of the March 26, 2015 meeting were accepted as written after a motion by Brian Mauro
and second by Don MacDonald.
Agenda topics
[Agenda topic 1] Lake level/ River outflow
Discussion: Barbara took the lake measurements on April 1st and 15th and both were at 55.6 ft. above sea
level, with 16 inches of water flowing over the board each time. There was 7-9 inches of water in the
stream by the stairs. The ice left the lake April 41h. Measurements were sent to Drew McManus in
Conservation. Barbara also let Drew know that there were some large branches caught in the enclosure of
the fish way, and he said he would remove them. When Drew was asked about sand removal from the
stream by DPW, he replied that DPW was not able to find a time with the late winter, and now the herring
were running. He said if a sand blockage was noted he would have them open the passage, but otherwise
the opportunity to remove the sand had been missed.
Conclusions: The lake is at 55.6 ft. above sea level. Sand was not removed from the stream this spring.
[Agenda topic 2] 2015 Spring Newsletter
Discussion: Barbara is still waiting for contributions for the newsletter. Brian will write something on
new fuel rules, and Don on boating safety. Steve Mone mentioned the harbormaster would be offering
boating safety classes for the certificate allowing those 12 - 16 to operate a motorboat. Debi will
contribute a reminder on invasive weed transfer on boats. We want the newsletter finished by next month
so it will be available in the town hall to folks coming in to get their beach and transfer station passes.
Conclusions: The spring newsletter should be completed soon.
