Mashpee - Wakeby Lake Management
Committee
May 28, 2015
7:30 PM
Mash ee Town Hall
Meeting called by: Debi McManus
Type of meeting: Monthly
Secretary Barbara B. Nichols
Attendees: Members: Brian Mauro, Don MacDonald, Andrew Gottlieb, Selectman
Liaison
Guests: David Sampson, Teresa Hurley, Sam Fischer, Heather Fischer
The minutes of the April 23, 2015 meeting were accepted as written, after a motion by Don MacDonald
and second by Brian Mauro.
Agenda topics
[Agenda topic 11 Lake level
Discussion: The lake level, taken by Barbara on May 2i° was. 55.5 ft., and on May 15t" was 55.4 ft. above
sea level. There were 15 and 14 inches of water going over the board closest to the lake, and 6.5 and 5.5
inches of water in the stream by the stairs. Measurements were emailed to Drew McManus in
Conservation. The branches in the gate enclosure were still present along with an additional 8 ft. board,
and Conservation has been notified. There were also 8 cormorants waiting for herring to come upstream
and enter the lake.
The four guests had some concern about the water level dropping in Wakeby, and it was explained to
them that Fisheries controls the level so that herring can migrate and Conservation monitors it. No change
in board levels have been made in several years. Andrew mentioned that it was largely controlled by
ground water levels.
Conclusions: The lake level is slightly lower this spring, but there is enough water for herring migration.
[Agenda topic 2] Spring Newsletter
Discussion: Thanks to the contributions of members, the newsletter was completed and sent to Joyce
Mason for her approval, which was received on May I2th. It was sent to David D. in IT on the 13t' and
posted on the Town web site. Twenty copies were printed for us, and Barbara received permission from
Deborah Dami to display the newsletters on the shelf by the sticker office in Town Hall.
Conclusions: The newsletter is completed and should get more visibility on the shelf by the sticker office.
