Mashpee - Wakeby Lake Management
Committee
August 27,2015
7:30 PM
Mashpec Town Hall
Meeting called by: Debi McManus
Type of meeting: Monthly
Secretary Barbara B. Nichols
Attendees: Members: Brian. Mauro, Donald MacDonald, Barbara Nichols, Andrew
Gottlieb, Selectman. Liaison
Guests: Rick Santangelo, Assistant Harbormaster, Susan Dange, Sam Fischer,
David Sampson,
The minutes of the July 23, 2015 meeting were accepted as written after a motion by Brian Mauro and
second by Debi McManus.
Agenda topics
[Agenda topic 11 Lake level/ .River outflow
Discussion: Barbara did the measurements on August 1$t and 151h. Lake levels were at 55.1 and 55.2 feet
above sea level with 10.5inches of water flowing over the board closest to the lake. There were 4 and 4.5
inches of water in the stream by the stairs. There is still adequate water for the herring to leave the lake.
Measurements were emailed to Drew McManus in Conservation.
Conclusions: The lake is a bit low due to low precipitation, but there is still enough water for the herring
to get downstream.
[Agenda topic 2] Cleveland & Keith Islands
Discussion: Paul McGrath emailed Debi with concerns about 2 islands in Wakeby, and several guests
commented. Boaters from off the lake have been clearing brush, having fires, spending days and evenings
with no sanitary facilities. All the problems removed from Lowell Holly with the beach closure have
spread to the islands. Town records show the islands are private property of the Andrew Lipnosky trust,
administered by his daughter, who has a home on Wakeby. Until the islands are posted No Trespassing,
there can be no enforcement to stop this. David Sampson will call the daughter and attempt to get the
islands posted. Someone suggested locking the gate to the parking lot in the evening, but this cannot be
done without State approval.
Conclusions: The islands are being abused by boaters, but nothing can be done unless the owners post
them "No Trespassing".
