A consolidated permits process will save the Town of Mashpee significant future expenditures. The
extension of the 4093 permit until Jan 2016 has been granted and will allow planned dredging activates
to be undertaken and completed.
Ken stated that the Town was in contact with and supportive of the Save Popponesset Bay's expanded
efforts to enable more sediment to be dredged on the Spit in the designated locations. Save
Popponesset Bay has received grant approval of$195,000 from CZM to fund this endeavor. Ken
suggested that Erik Peterson of Save Popponesset Bay will be contacted to see if he would give a
presentation to the Committee for informational purposes.
Water Quality Update:
Don Macdonald will contact Dr. Brian Howes at SMAST to do a presentation for the Town on the most
recent results of the Water Quality Testing Program.
Barnstable County Coastal Resource Committee:
No Report
Public Access:
Ken indicated the public access to the Great River Ramp is closed. The idea to incorporate a center
ramp and float system in the design of the new project was supported. It was felt that this feature
would enhance both safe launch and recovery.
New Business:
The Annual Report of the Waterways Commission for Fiscal 2014 was reviewed. This report was
forwarded to the Town Administration.
There is no scheduled meeting in February of the Waterways Commission. Due to time constraints and
the requirement for timely payment of the dredging bill,a vote was proposed by Stan Healy and
seconded by Don Barton. The vote was unanimously approved that Ken Bates, the Chairman, be
authorized to review, validate, and approve the dredge billing and forward that billing to the Town
offices for the necessary processing.
Don Barton mentioned the new rules recently issued for fertilizer management need the utmost
compliance if the sewer costs are to be mitigated and the marine life in our bays protected He
proposed that a one page summary of the new requirements be included as an enclosure in the next tax
bill mailing to insure maximum dissemination. In this way, residents can understand the correlation
between their future tax bills increases(sewer)and sound environmental practices that restrain those
costs. Mike Richardson agreed and stated he would bring this consideration to the Board of Selectman.
Further, Mike recommended that the fertilizer guideline requirements be posted as a link on the Town's
home page web site.
