Mashpee Waterways Commission <br /> Minutes of the August 11th, 2015 Meeting <br /> Chairman Ken Bates called the meeting to order at 9:07 AM at the Mashpee Town Hall in the Ockway <br /> Meeting Room. <br /> Present: Bill Taylor, Don Barton, Ken Bates,Al Wickel,Stan Healy <br /> Absent: Tim Leedham, Don McDonald <br /> Also Present: Rodney Collins,Town Manager,Catherine Laurent, DPW Director and Rick York,Shellfish <br /> Warden <br /> Motion was made by Bill Taylor,2nd by Don Barton and unanimously approved to accept minutes as <br /> corrected for the July 14th, 2015 Waterways Commission meeting. <br /> Communications and Correspondence: <br /> None <br /> Harbormaster Report: <br /> It was announced that Lt Santangelo is the acting Harbormaster.A plan is in place to provide coverage <br /> for the rest of the year Rodney Collins reported.The Chief of Police is working with the Town Manager <br /> and acting harbormaster preparing work details for the fall maintenance efforts and the replacement of <br /> the town's harbormaster. <br /> The Waterway's commission voted unanimously to thank Stephen Mone for his outstanding service to <br /> the town of Mashpee as Harbormaster. <br /> Shellfish Constable Report: Rick reported that it has been a great summer all across the Cape for <br /> shellfish propagation. He said he has seen some of the fastest growing of the animals in both seed and <br /> adult size in many years. "A good type of algae is in the water helping them grow." Programs continue <br /> with 2000 oyster spat bags in the Mashpee River with many more in Shoestring Bay. New pump out <br /> boat is doing a great job Rick added. <br /> Mashpee Wakeby Report: No new developments <br /> Public Access Report: Efforts are underway with Mashpee DPW and members of the Waterway's <br /> Commission to develop signage for both the State and Town ways to water.There is a need to educate <br /> boaters on the damage that power loading does to our ramps Al Wickel said,and new signs along with <br /> public education are the solution.The Town Manager was in favor of producing signs that were <br /> aesthetically pleasing showing the pride the town of Mashpee has for its waterways. Rick York added <br /> that the Town's website would be a good tool to use in helping educate the public. DPW Director <br />
