MASHPEE WATERWAYS COMMISSION
MASHPEE TOWN HALL, MASHPEE, MA
MINUTES OF THE OCTOBER 20, 2015 MEETING
Chairman Ken Bates called the meeting to order at 9:03 AM at the Mashpee Town Hall
in the Popponesset Meeting Room
Present: Don Barton, Ken Bates, Andrew Gottlieb, Stanton Healy, Tim Needham, Don
MacDonald, Rick York
Absent: Bill Taylor, A! Wickel
Minutes of the September, 2015 Meeting: Motion made by Stan Healy to approve
minutes, 2"d by Don MacDonald and unanimously approved.
Communications & Correspondence: Don B. asked about adding a message
regarding fertilizer to the water bills. Andy will check into this but recommended it be
added to the tax bill as not everyone gets a water bill.
Harbormaster Report: Rick Santorum was putting winter sticks on Poppy so was not at
the meeting.
Shellfish Constable Report: Rick reported the scallop season was under way with
over 200 bushels taken, which is the best recorded since the 90s. Seeding is
planned for every year as natural spawning is not expected any time soon.
MashpeelWakeby Management Committee: There were no action items recorded by
Don MacDonald. The next meeting is Thursday, October22. Ken will follow up with
Catherine to see if the sand from power loading at the ramp was partially pulled back.
Water Quality: Don MacDonald asked if there was any overlap of the $8,400 budget for
the Water Quality Testing compared to the budget passed at last night's Town Meeting
for extensive testing regarding the shellfish component of the town's waste water
management plan. Rick York stated that there is no overlap. The testing we do for
Water Quality is dome in different testing areas. The new extensive testing will be done
at the shellfish locations. Andrew recommended that the $8,400 Services Agreement
