MASHPEE WASTE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE <br /> WEDNESDAY,JUNE 17,2015 <br /> OCKWAY MEETING ROOM--TOWN HALL <br /> Present: Wayne BevAcqua, Glenn Santos,Richard Elrick,Joyce Mason,Tom O'Hara,Tom <br /> Murphy, Catherine Laurent,and Andrew McKelvey. <br /> Absent: John Cahalane,Kalliope Egloff,Jonathan Furbush,and Geoff Gorman. <br /> Audience: Sam Houghton-Mashpee Enterprise <br /> Tom O'Hara,Vice Chairman,called the meeting to order at 6 p.m. and informed the Committee <br /> that in view of the cmails received from Committee members requesting a meeting he scheduled <br /> this meeting. Joyce Mason explained Mike Richardson had been appointed to this Committee as <br /> Selectman member and since not re-elected he is not a member. However,Joyce advised that if <br /> Mike chooses to do so he can send a request to the Board of Selectmen to be appointed as <br /> member At Large. The Committee agreed that reorganization of the Waste Management <br /> Committee should be placed on the agenda for next meeting. <br /> Motion: Andrew McKelvey motioned to put Waste Management Committee reorganization on <br /> the next meeting agenda. Glenn Santos seconded the motion; and it was unanimously passed, <br /> Approval of Minutes <br /> Catherine Laurent motioned to approve the minutes of April 14, 2015. Joyce Mason seconded <br /> the motion. <br /> Discussion: Wayne BevAcqua recommended not approving the minutes until the verbatim <br /> minutes were reviewed by the Committee. <br /> Catherine Laurent withdrew her motion; seconded by Joyce Mason. <br /> Joyce is to contact Town Clerk to request the Cleric provide a copy of the verbatim minutes to the <br /> Committee, Approval of April 14`x'minutes tabled for next meeting, <br /> Organic Com ostin <br /> • Catherine Laurent advised that at this point only 2%of the 4300 FY-15 transfer station <br /> sticker holders are participating in the food waste composting. Catherine said the$150 <br /> monthly fee paid for food waste removal is being paid through a grant. <br /> • Tom Murphy asked; Any idea how many people do composting...how many houses do <br /> composting? Catherine said only information they have is they sell around 30 bins/year. <br /> • Tom O'Hara noted food waste can be brought in a bag to transfer station to add to the <br /> barrel. <br /> • Tom Murphy said we have to get people in Town educated because no matter who he <br /> talks to they don't understand the waste management system they just bag and throw <br /> away. <br /> • Joyce Mason suggested doing Survey Monkey on-line to get some sense of how many <br /> residents are aware of Transfer Station services. <br /> • Other communities that have composting on Cape—none see substantial decrease in solid <br /> waste. <br />
