Committee Member Suggestions(continued)
Kalliope Egloff(continued)
During the discussion some of the points raised included the following:
Rodney Collins said it only makes sense to avoid confrontation with cameras. Also he said he
agrees with education approach but if no consequence to violating rules then what's the sense to
having rules?
Glenn Santos suggested when resident applies for sticker have them sign commitment statement
agreeing to follow rules of Transfer Station. If rules not followed, they risk losing sticker
privilege for up to one year.
Tom O'Hara suggested Transfer Station have big, block letter signage to point out recyclables—
for example, bottles;paper; cardboard.
Kalliope said perhaps high school graphics could do `tip of the week"just to raise awareness.
Also she suggested getting marketing background people involved for some ideas on how to
reach out with recycling message.
Tom Murphy said Kalliope made a great point. We need educator to get ideas across and a
marketing person. He said he thinks we can do more to get people to use the single stream. He
said maybe have schools help to bring message home via students; also Mashpee TV; high school
graphics group; and use Town Website. He said use every source to let people know about 5-bag
Iimit. Wayne BevAcqua commented this was very well said and it should be noted that
recyclables don't count as trash so not counted as park of the 5 bags.
Catherine advised she already spoke with Shane and he is working with the high school to get on
Mashpee TV.
Finally, Catherine said in next 5 years would be an opportunity for users to have a voluntary
reduction in trash so that when the 5-year review on Transfer Station operations is done then
PAYT may be considered if no reduction.
Next Meeting
b p.m.,Monday,December 14,2015 at Town Hall...anticipated to be final Committee meeting.
Adjournment
Rodney Collins motioned to adjourn the meeting the motion was seconded by Glenn
Santos; and was unanimously passed.
